5 Ingredients found in Personal Care Products You Should Stop Using Right Now

Posted by

Did you know that you’re exposed to over 200 chemicals on any given day? It’s true. Not only that, but many of these chemicals are suspected of causing cancer. Without knowledge, we use many products on ourselves and children, thinking we’re safe. Unfortunately, this just isn’t the case.

You’d think you’d have a right to be warned. The tobacco industry got in big trouble many years ago, and are now forced to include warning labels on their products informing users that their product can cause cancer. However, the laws surrounding the cosmetic industry haven’t changed much since 1938 when the FDA granted self-regulation. Since then, products can be marketed without any government approval of ingredients. In fact, over 25,000 chemicals currently being used, have been tested, and are shown to have long-term toxic effects. That’s scary. Still, companies using these chemicals are not required to file data on ingredients, or report any cosmetic related injuries to the FDA.

What’s more interesting is that the European Union has banned 1100 chemicals found in cosmetics, yet the Food and

Drug Administration, has only banned 10. That’s right. Only ten. Moreover, a study

conducted in 2007 by the Environmental Working Group, found that 1 in 30 products sold in the United States fails to meet industry or government standards.

Add to this that nearly 400 products sold in the US, contain chemicals banned in Japan, Canada and the European Union, and 99% of all products assessed contained one or more ingredients never tested for safety, you begin to ask yourself why.

Truth is, you can’t possibly read every ingredient found in every product you use every day. But you can start small, and take baby steps. Educating yourself and your children to make better choices will go a long way in benefitting your health. If you don’t, unfortunately, no one will do it for you.

Here are 5 ingredients you need to avoid starting now.

  1. Aluminum: Linked to Breast Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease.
  2. Parabens: They disrupt your hormonal balance, which can lead to early puberty in children, and an increased risk of cancers.
  3. Propylene Glycol: Can cause serious health conditions like liver and heart damage, and allows other chemicals to penetrate deep into the skin, and increase the number of chemicals that reach the blood stream.
  4. Phthalates: Linked to numerous health issues including a higher risk of birth defects.
  5. Triclosan: Classified as a pesticide by the FDA, and as a probable carcinogen by the EPA.

Learn what you can about these 5 toxins, and why you need to avoid them. Make it simple. Start off by eliminating these five ingredients in your products, and you’ll make a big difference in your health and the health of your family. Education and implementation is key.

Since traditional store-bought deodorant has a high concentration of these toxins, it can cause sal-mutations and cancer. What’s worse is that the human body eliminates harmful toxins through perspiration from only a few areas on the body, including the arm pits. Antiperspirants prevent you from perspiring, thereby inhibiting the body of eliminating these toxins. As a result, they have no where to go, build up in your body over time, and can create significant health issues as you age.

Begin making healthier choices now, and you’ll be thanking yourself later!
