9 Signs Your Body Desperately Needs to Detox

Posted by

Detoxification is something we often hear health and wellness experts talk about. Many people wrongly assume that detoxification has little value. However, science has proven time and again that toxins do exist and that they have a tremendously negative impact on our bodies. The emergence and wide spread development of conditions that were previously unheard of is testament to this.

Toxins Are Everywhere

Toxins In The Air

Toxic chemicals such as carbon monoxide, methane and sulfur dioxide are released into the atmosphere as a result of human activities such as manufacturing processes, vehicle emissions, tobacco smoke and many others. These toxins are inhaled and can accumulate in the body.

Toxins in Food

A lot of the food available today is laced with preservatives, food additives, food dyes and other ingredients that can be considered toxic. There is also an increase in the production of genetically modified foods.

Toxins in our Water

There are several toxins in water as well. These include chemicals such as ammonia, chlorine and even prescription medicines. Some of these chemicals are used to treat water in an effort to make it ‘safe’ for drinking. Other chemicals are discharged into water either accidentally or on purpose by manufacturing companies.

Toxic Chemicals in Personal Products

We are exposed to a large volume of chemicals everyday through the products that we use for our personal care as well as for the care of our living environment. These products include skin care lotions, make-up, pesticides and cleaning products.

Are You Experiencing Any of These Symptoms?

Unexplained Fatigue

The accumulation of toxins in the body creates a burden on the elimination system and results in general fatigue. Clearing of toxins from your gastrointestinal tract helps to rejuvenate the whole digestive system. This explains why many people experience more energy after a change in diet.

Sluggish Elimination

There are four main systems of elimination in the body. These are the urinary tract, the bowels, the skin and the lungs. For example the bowels eliminate the waste produced in the digestive tract. This includes food that is not digested. The introduction of toxins in the body causes undue pressure on the system as it works hard to eliminate the waste.

Irritated Skin

The skin is one of the largest organs in the body and one of its primary functions is to eliminate waste from the body through sweat and secretions. Toxins in chemicals we are exposed to topically result in the blockage of pores on the skin. This causes toxins in the body to accumulate in the skin resulting in irritations.

Allergies

Our bodies are programmed to protect themselves when something tries to harm them from the inside. The immune system is our primary defense against disease causing organisms. There are many toxins that can cause the release of histamines into the blood by antibodies. This is recorded by the antibodies. Every time you come into contact with the toxin, the histamines are released resulting in what is seen as an allergic reaction.

Low-grade infections

Some toxins are what are known as super antigens. They bind to T-cells and therefore allow low grade infections to set in.

Puffy eyes or bags under the eyes

The accumulation of toxins in the body can lead to fluid buildup under the eyes. People thus develop puffy eyes or bags under the eyes.

Bloating

Bloating is often a sign of an overworked digestive system. Toxins place more pressure on the digestive system causing it to become sluggish and therefore resulting in the formation of gases as the digestive system slows down and digestion of food is incomplete.

Menstrual Problems

The body does all it can to get rid of toxins. It can therefore use the bleeding uterus as a means to rid itself of toxins that are building up. Women may therefore experience heavier periods as a result.

Mental Confusion

Toxins in food and water such as heavy metals are well known for interfering with the nervous system. They result in mental confusion as well as other cerebrospinal conditions.

The good news is that our bodies are self-regulating. Our in built elimination system can help get rid of toxins in our bodies. All we have to do is assist this system to work more efficiently to ensure detoxification.

Next week, we’ll discuss 10 surprisingly simple things you can do to detoxify your body, so keep an eye out for that upcoming post. Until then, and as always, feel free to comment with any questions you may have. Also, if you’ve benefited from this post in any way, we encourage you to share it with friends, family, and your social networks!
